Movies I Was Just Disappointed With
with some short comments. I take no responsibility for comments being
the same from day to day. These pages contain spoilers. Turn back now if you want!
Sometimes, I just really look forward to seeing a movie, and it's not
at all what it could have been. It wasn't bad enough to make the
didn't like list, but if didn't fulfill
enough of its potential to make the did like list.
- Man on the Moon, Theater
I was a fan of Andy Kaufman growing up, and his madness has always sat
on the edges of my conciousness. This movie was not bad, but
thoroughly uninspired. It was about Andy Kaufman, but not OF
Andy Kaufman. In chronicling his life, he was portrayed as a guy who
had a firm grip on reality, but just liked to fuck with people. I
don't know how close to the truth that is, but I highly suspect (from
what I know and remember about him) that he was wildly insane, and
just liked to fuck with people. They also had a really good chance to
leave the audience not knowing which way was up at the end of the
movie, and they just skipped it in favor of a feel-good tear-jerker
(which it was for me, but for far different reasons than they
intended). Jim Carrey's performance, while tremendously better than
any of his recent garbage, was not the transformation I was led to
believe by all of the media reports. It wasn't the movie Andy would
have made.
